Ralston, Nebraska Police arrested a man who had a felony warrant for dealing cocaine because of the job application he submitted to a prospective employer. The warrants have been uncovered by a company that screens job applicants for local businesses which mostly uncovers petty offenses like unpaid traffic tickets. However over the past 3 years has uncovered 50 felony warrants ranging from drug, assault, and murder. One job application turned up a Atlanta man wanted on a murder charge applying for a job in Omaha.

Having your background checked at the nightclub?

The Pearl Nightclub in Tuscon, Arizona has started to implement the use of background checks on it’s patrons who are violating the nightclub’s dress code “which prohibits baggy clothing, athletic wear, flip-flops, work boots or plain-colored T-shirts.” says general manager Damian Calderon. But there may be a slight perk to customers who have successfully completed the club’s background check process, they are issued a VIP card which entitles them to free admission on said night and on further visits gets them to the front of the waiting line. So far some 10 people have been asked to leave because a background check came back with a recent felony conviction. Found it here.

It seems as though that there are many more people being affected by the extensive job interview process that employers are using now that they have a larger pool of potential employees to choose from.

The EEOC is attributing the rise in extensive background and credit checks to employers using websites like the one your on that enable easy and affordable background checks. This has led to a number of class action lawsuits against certain companies because they are using a blanket policy against people with a criminal record of any kind whether it has any relation to the job or not therefore unfairly eliminating them from a job.

We wrote about a similar story yesterday, where it’s becoming commonplace for schools to conduct background cehcks on parents who would like to volunteer at their child’s school. A Rhode Island mother who had been able to volunteer at her daughter’s pre-school many times before, had to submit to a criminal background check. Which unfortunately for the mother turned up 2 felony drug convictions from her early 20′s before her daughter was born. Original story

If your a parent that is looking to volunteer at your child’s school get ready to fork over $40 to have a criminal background check conducted before you can go and pass out cookies and juice to the kindergarden class. Schools in Nashville, TN have begun conducting background checks on [arents who would like to volunteer. In one case the school district had checked over 2000 parents with four of them coming back they should not be around children. In what has been something that many Americans have been troubled since the beginning of the recession, and it’s finding employment. However with so many workers in the workforce employers are finding it neccessary to conduct more thorough investigations into the individuals they hire. MSNBC wrote a story about three individuals having a hardtime finding employment for two main reasons: 1. being they had committed a felony and 2. they were minorities.
